A tropical treat!

As a cold water diver residing in Cape Town where water temperatures can drop to 5’C, it is a real treat to be able to dive in 28’C crystal clear water. I had this opportunity when my girlfriend (http://humbleambition.blogspot.com/) and I went for a dive trip to Sodwana bay..This is one of the first places in the world where live Coelocanths can be visited. I spent most of my time free diving (breath hold) as the water was so nice and clear it was no problem to free dive a 15m reef with plenty of photo opportunities.
Here are some of the shots I took while there:

Seven Gill Sharks

Here are some of my shots of Seven gill Sharks in False Bay Cape Town. They are extremely docile animals and are really fun to dive with. They are a a resident of an area in False Bay called Pyramid Rock and I have seen them there every time I have dived there.

Here is some rare footage of a seal playing with Seven Gill Sharks. This video was filmed on my GoPro HD. There is a loss of sharpness with the Gopro due to the lens curviture, but I am working on a fix for it.

Moody landscapes/aquascapes

Here is a collection of images that I have taken to capture the mood of the Cape waters.. The visibility in these waters varies substantially and gives the photographer the opportunity to photograph many different moods..from the clear blue days to the dark scary green days, all these situations give rise to different moods.

The inquisitive seal

So we decided to go for a snorkel on Sunday, and the viz was quite good...As we swam over a nice big open patch of sand a inquisitive seal came to say hi...He was so much fun, we swam down and waited for him to come investigate what we were. Seals love bright colours and since I wear bright yellow fins and snorkel he was especially interested. He even came up to me and posed beautifully for me.

Star fun

Here are a few shots of star fish that I have taken in and around the Cape coast. Many people say the Cape Town waters lack colour but I beg to differ! The colour is just more in the invertebrate component instead of the fish component.

About me....

From underwater pics

My name is Jason aka Nosaj, I have always marvelled in the wonders of the ocean and have always wanted to capture the amazing beauty of it all. So in my 2nd year of studying Oceanography in Cape Town I decided to purchase my first under water camera! It was a canon powershot A70 (3mega pixel) camera with the canon housing. I then purchased a canon G7 with housing and this is what I use till this day...I am hoping to upgrade some time, but as economic times become more and more strenuous, this is becoming less practical. I have enjoyed every second of being in the water and thrive on getting that shot! This blog will be a place for me to show off a little of what I get up to during the time I am in the water. Hope you enjoy!
